Welcome, and congratulations on your new product!

On this page, you will get to know your product better so you maximize your investmentGarbage Commander offers the ultimate solution for hauling your trash cans. Our products have been thoroughly tested and with over 20,000 units sold, we know we can provide you with a high-quality product. Our hooks are made of 11 & 10 gauge steel, which is strong and durable, but not indestructible.

Remember these key bullet points, and you'll get years of use from your hook.

  • Tighten Nuts and Bolts
Make sure they are tight by using a tool Just using your figure strength will not make them tight We use locknuts, They will "lock" the nut on the bolt, preventing it from coming loose when tightened properly Don't forget to check your nuts and bolts We use locking nuts and washers, however, if they are not tightened they can come loose over time
  • Perfect Height
Operating height Handle should be between 14" - 21" Mounting the can handle too high will not put enough weight on the hauler causing the cans to want to tip upright Click to see info
  • Too Much Weight
These are designed for trash Not Manure!! We have tested the units hauling 75 - 100 lbs of handle weight at an operating height between 14" - 21" Click to see info
  • Use your Fasteners
Using the clips will help keep the cans from tipping or coming loose while traveling We send the PTO clips as a standard because they will hold the trash can the best We do understand that some people do struggle with using these, that is why we do have options Click to see info
  • Backing Up
Don't back up when the cans are attached Cans can jack knife and cause damage to the hook or your vehicle Click to see the video
  • Hauling Reminders
Don't forget to remove the hauler Remove hooks when not towing a can. This style unit can swing back and cause damage to the tow vehicle or hit tires on UTVs and UTVs IF you keep in on and not have a lock, people might steal it Don’t haul an odd number of cans on one side Putting a can on one side will offset the hauler causing damage to the unit Click to see the video Don’t use on public roads
  • I just put my garbage can hauling device together and it looks really low
If you look at 98% of the other can hitch devices they are all "laying" more than standing. This is because if they are too high the cans will want to stand up and that will cause more stress of any of the can hauling devices out there. Our suggested height is 14"-21". It also has to do with weight distribution. Check out our Information page fore more details.

  • Can I back up with cans attached?
Garbage hooks are designed to be a towing device please don't back up with bins attached. This could cause damage to our product.
  • What color's do they come in?
The only color we have is black. If you see any RED hooks or parts that is for display, video, instructions, etc. to help better see the product.
  • What happens if I bend a part?
We sell parts, if you have questions on what parts you can always give us a call or email.
  • Why do I have square or round PTO clips and my instructions show the other style?
The PTO hooks are subject to change. Depending on what supplier has them and how many we can get.
  • I am ordering this for someone else and I am not sure on all the details about their vehicle.
Not a problem! We are here to help you try to figure it out or if they have the wrong style, we will swap it out with no shipping charge. (price may very from product to product)
  • Can the support arm hit my vehicle?
Yes- normally your trail hitch is extended 8-10" this should leave for a large turning radius for going around curves before cans could touch the bumper.
  • The cans look really low when attached?
Keep in mind our recommended height is 14" - 21". This will allow approximately 30% of the cans weight to be resting to the support arm.
  • I want to use a ball mounted hook, what do you recommend?
You can use a 1 7/8" or 2" ball. A 2" ball will work the best.
  • Will it tow 2 large cans together?
Yes, if you go with a single can hook we have the Can Coupler that would allow you to take more than one can at a time. All our products are 11ga steel and powder coated for longevity and durability.
  • I have a 32 gallon trash can. Does this work for me?
The 32 gal containers are lower and depending on the receiver hitch height they might not tilt at the right angle. An easy way to see measures the receiver height and add 2" this will be where the arm for hauling would be set. If you have 14" at a minimum height then you should be able to use this.
  • Perfect Speed
Don’t go over 15 MPH Why are you in such a hurry anyway, this beats walking The rougher the surface the slower you should go

SINGLE CAN ON TWO WIDE

For the steepest driveways

Mountain Hooks

Mountain Hooks are designed for the steepest driveways. The can's handle is cradled around our U-channel and secured in place using the standard PTO pin, one on each side of the trash can. This makes it impossible for the can's handle to detach during transportation. They are also great for when installation heights that are more than 20" tall or when using our Can Couples for hauling multiple cans at one time.

Garbage Hook Weight Capacity

  • According to statistics the average amount of waste produced per person in the U.S. is 30 pounds per week. When both a trash cart and recycle cart are provided, approximately 20 pounds per person per week is deposited into the trash cart and 10 pounds per person per week is deposited into the recycle cart. Therefore a family of four will produce approximately 80 pounds of trash and 40 pounds of recycle waste per week.

We have determined that by “handle weight”

That is the total amount of weight resting on the hook itself.

We loaded a trash can with 150 lbs and tested it at 3 different points.

14”, 18” and 21” which is the recommended height range for all our products.

  • For our UBL units the handle weight would be 40 lbs

  • For our Receiver Mounted the handle weight would be 50 lbs

  • For our Ball Mounted the handle weight would be 75 lbs.

If you have any other questions regarding handle weight please reach out to us. We are here to help.
