The hook and swiveling top rail are key in making a smooth trouble-free way to get trash down a winding driveway. The design has two patents and one design patent. It comes in four different mounting methods, receiver-style, ball mounted, bolt mounted, and bumper mounted. The normal suggested range of 14” to a max of 21” in total height off the ground. With a 96 gallon tote, the cans should be tilted at a 30-degree angle to allow enough of the weight to be distributed to the handle. We base this off a 96 gal tote that is approx. 42” from the ground to the handle. If the angle is too tall the can will want to tilt upright again when towing. FAQs Garbage Can Hauling Device Questions and Answers I just put my garbage can hauling device together and it looks really low If you look at 98% of the other can hitch devices they are all "laying" more than standing. This is because if they are too high the cans will want to stand up and that will cause more stress of any of the can hauling devices out there. Our suggested height is 14"-21". It also has to do with weight distribution. Check out our Information page fore more details. How do I order? Ordering is easy and secure using our website. If you want we can also accept an order via email or over the phone and send an invoice using PayPal. What about Shipping? We process orders within 24 hours and ship using FedEx ground or USPS Priority Mail. We will notify you of your tracking number will be sent once the order is on its way. Where will you ship? Anywhere, if it is not is the USA or Canada, give us a call and we will get pricing. What if I live close and want to pick it up? We will call and set up a time that works for you to stop and pick up your order. What about Returns? No problem if you are not happy with our product to get a full refund. Simply return the product in sell-able condition and we will give you a full refund. *Customers are responsible to pay the return freight. What about really steep driveways? If you feel you might need to fasten the trash bins handle to prevent them from trying to lift off the hooks when towing down steeper driveways add our 1/4" x 2" PTO clips. They install in seconds and can stay on the unit if not needed. Can I back up with cans attached? Garbage hooks are designed to be a towing device please don't back up with bins attached. This could cause damage to our product. What color's do they come in? The only color we have is black. If you see any RED hooks or parts that is for display, video, instructions, etc. to help better see the product. What happens if I bend a part? We sell parts, if you have questions on what parts you can always give us a call or email. Why do I have square or round PTO clips and my instructions show the other style? The PTO hooks are subject to change. Depending on what supplier has them and how many we can get. I am ordering this for someone else and I am not sure on all the details about their vehicle. Not a problem! We are here to help you try to figure it out or if they have the wrong style, we will swap it out with no shipping charge. (price may very from product to product) Can the support arm hit my vehicle? Yes- normally your trail hitch is extended 8-10" this should leave for a large turning radius for going around curves before cans could touch the bumper. The cans look really low when attached? Keep in mind our recommended height is 14" - 21". This will allow approximately 30% of the cans weight to be resting to the support arm. I want to use a ball mounted hook, what do you recommend? You can use a 1 7/8" or 2" ball. A 2" ball will work the best. Will it tow 2 large cans together? Yes, if you go with a single can hook we have the Can Coupler that would allow you to take more than one can at a time. All our products are 11ga steel and powder coated for longevity and durability. I have a 32 gallon trash can. Does this work for me? The 32 gal containers are lower and depending on the receiver hitch height they might not tilt at the right angle. An easy way to see measures the receiver height and add 2" this will be where the arm for hauling would be set. If you have 14" at a minimum height then you should be able to use this. Vehicle Help Suggested garbage hooks by vehicle type Vehicle Types ATV's UTV's Trucks & SUV's Lawnmowers Cars Golf Cars For any of our garbage hooks ​ All vehicles are different. We can't guarantee that our hooks will work for everything out there. Two wide garbage hooks for meant for an even number of cans, not odd like 3 Singe wide garbage hooks are the best if you have an odd number of cans like 3. Do not back up while cans are attached. Not for public road use Quick Instal links Receiver Mount Instal Ball Mount Instal Bolt Mount Instal Bumper Mount Instal Golf Cars For golf cars, the best way to do it is with a receiver hitch. You can use the UBL hooks and bolt them onto the step board. ​ We have seen a few where they were able to use the BRH system to use a receiver mounted hook as well. ​ -UBL & UBL-MT -SR-MT BRH Lawnmowers There are a few different ways you can attach a garbage hook to a lawnmower. Most lawnmowers out there will have a hitch flange at the back and bottom of the mower. An example is shown on the right. ​ We will always recommend a single can unit with Can Couplers for lawnmowers. You can use one of our UBL units and blot in on or purchase a ball to fasten it on there and use the UBL as a ball mounted unit ​ -UBL & UBL-MT -SR-MT BRH Golf Cars Lawnmowers ATVs ATVs typically come with a Hitch Flange like above. If this is the case we would be recommending one of the UBL units. ​ Another way is to use our BRH adaptor. This will allow you to use one of the receiver mounted hooks. Simply bolt the BRH onto the flange and now you can rest your receiver mounted hook on by a simple trailer pin. -UBL & UBL-MT -SR-MT BRH ATV UTVs UTVs can be tricky, they can come with a Hitch Flange like above or a 1 1/2" receiver or a 2" receiver. We recommend you check on this before you purchase any hook. ​ If your UTV comes with a 2" receiver hitch then any of our receiver mounted hooks would work. ​ Another option is if you have a trailer tongue and ball then one of our UBL units might be the right one for you. Keep in mind these units can be used as a ball mounted hook or even a bolt-on. ​ If you have a flange, you can use our BRH adaptor. This will allow you to use one of the receiver mounted hooks. Simply bolt the BRH onto the flange and now you can rest your receiver mounted hook on by a simple trailer pin. You can use the UBLs as a bolt on with that flange. -UBL & UBL-MT -SR-MT ​ In some cases because of the bed, you may need to purchase an extender. BRH UTV Trucks & SUVs Trucks & SUVs will typically have a 2" receiver hitch then any of our receiver mounted hooks would work. ​ -SR-MT & DR-MT ​ If you already own a tongue and ball you can also look into the Ball Mounted hooks. ​ -SB-MT & DB-MT ​ Trucks & SUV Cars Most cars will typically not have a receiver hitch and will rely on using their bumper as the mounting style. This is where the Bumper Hook comes into play. Simply hook the clasp to your trunk latch and adjust for proper height and you are set. ​ -Bumper Hook & Bumper Hook-MT ​ For more then one can, use our Can Coupler to create a dasy-chan. Garbage can hauling hooks are specially designed and act as a retaining device that holds the handle in place during transportation. With a 96 gallon tote, the cans should be tilted at a 30-degree angle to allow enough of the weight to be distributed to the handle. When both a trash cart and recycle cart are provided, approximately 20 pounds per person per week is deposited into the trash cart and 10 pounds per person per week is deposited into the recycle cart. Therefore a family of four will produce approximately 80 pounds of trash and 40 pounds of recycle waste per week. History The birth of the garbage hook I n 2014, after retiring from the family company, Kurt set out to rediscover himself. Kurt has a long, steep driveway. Getting the larger trash bins to the road was very time consuming, physical, and dangerous, especially in bad weather. He would have to either lift the cans onto a trailer or try to bungee the handle around the ball of my receiver hitch to get them out. After spilling garbage and a couple of falls getting the trash out for pickup, he started to think of an easier way to get the job done. I would find him tinkering around with his little trash hauling project, and I would quietly chuckle to myself. After a couple of prototypes, he decided he was going to patent his invention. He first worked on a low profile, towable wagon that worked great, but he still had to fasten the cans to make sure they didn’t tip off. After several prototypes, he started working on an extended hook that would act as a retainer holding the handle in place during transportation. The hook and swiveling top rail is key to making a smooth, trouble-free way to get trash down a winding, steep driveway. The final design is patented and comes in two different mounting methods: a receiver-style and ball-mounted model. The receiver-style simply installs into a standard 2” receiver hitch. If you have a 1-1/4” hitch, we offer a reducer to convert from the standard 2” to 1-1/4” receivers. The ball mounted style is great for anyone who already has a ball hitch or wants to leave their trailer hitch in place. The unit slips under a standard 1-7/8” or 2” ball hitch and is pinned in place still allowing the cans to pivot around turns during transportation. ​ Smiling, I just shook my head and walked away. I should have known better than to doubt him. Here we are a years later, and his tinkering has turned into a growing business. The demand for a small garbage hauling device has truly surprised me.
